Makati - Note 5

Hi all.. haha.. my last note from here before I head off for Sg. It's been .. fun. Tiring and bleak at times (work, meh!) but on the whole.. fun. Philippines is made cool due largely to the folks I think. Maybe it's the hospitality extended to people from abroad, but I've been made to feel really at ease and comfortable here. So.. I think the one thing I will miss - besides the food and copious amounts of MSG - would be the peeps here. But at the same time, I'm really looking forward to seeing you guys again! :) So I'll just end off with a few more pix in the last week - and I'll see you guys soon..

Sun - the service - I felt weird taking photos so it's just the one

Went later off to Market Market (it looks NOTHING like any market I know) to get mangoes for you guys! and then caught a movie (A Team - very entertaining - testosterone overload whoohoo!).. not before doing a double take at this though.

Looks familiar?

Anyways it was workworkwork for my final week till Thurs, when things started to look slightly more happening. My team treated me to lunch .. haven't hung out with them much, due to a variety of reasons, but it was nice of them to do this... halfway, the waiters came out with pots and pans, and did like a rap (?) or a rhyme for this bday boy at another table, keeping odd time with said pots and pans. Hmm marks for effort, though they are still a looong way from Stomp.

Ana - she seems to be happy with her food

Michelle stuck in front of Pots #2 and #3

At night, Jen and Nino took me out for food - not this place but Jen parked nearby. This is Burgos Circle, a gimmick place too, for hangout. Like.. hmm. a quieter version of Holland V. Pretty, though.

We went to this place called Chicboy - near where I had my haircut!
Nino deliberated a while
Not so much, us

Chic(ken) and (ba)boy - Best Friends..(aww)

They all end up like this though.. wahhahahha
Baboy...that's pork. Looks like Pacman, no?

By the time we were done it was already 10ish I mean.. we quickly headed off to this place.....
go on, make a guess!

Well.. Tadah!!! Videoke! wahahhah.. go everywhere also Karaoke.. I made them sing A LOT of tagalog songs.. melody quite nice leh, and they have pretty good voices - confirming my suspicions that most Filipinos have good voices hee.. I sang like 2 old chinese songs... and a lot of rock whoohoo!! lots of screaming in there. er mainly from me. I think i really let go (up to 40 % - I don't really dare to go 100% like I do with you guys hahhah)

Still. We sang till 1 am! Zombiefied

Came in the next day with not much of a voice actually. Then hung out for lunch with Nino, Juvy , Carol (my trainee) and some other gals..it was fun lah once the initial awkwardness was gone. I think I really amused (likely horrified) them with my mango-love

Go Philippines eat chinese! haha...

Happily tucked in though hahah

Mango YUM!!

Nerd with mango. Nerd ate TWO of these things.. !

After saying my goodbyes later (gosh stayed till 9+ with Carol doing my stuff and answering her qns too.. I hope she does well when I'm back.gulp). She nicely took me out.. to Burgos Circle!
It's this orangey-looking place there, called.. Mile Hi. hee.. concept is very much like Billy Bombers..

This is Chicken Lollipop with Spag! Sylvia's ones are nicer though hee

Last ones for the road...

It's been fun lah. till the next time, (hopefully not for work!)

Teach your children God's Word !

Friday, June 18, 2010
Teach your children God's Word
by Rick Warren

I have given them Your Word ... John 17:14 (NIV)
"There's only one way to help your kids be free: Teach them the Truth that will set them free. "

You can become a spiritual leader to your children by developing the characteristics that evident in Jesus as he taught his disciples for three years.

He taught them that the Word of God is our foundation. It's what we build our lives on and it's what our children should build their lives on. God's Word is the truth, and Jesus said, "... You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:32, TEV)

I want my kids to be free: I don't want them bound up by guilt. I don't want them bound up by worry. I don't want my kids messed up by resentment. I don't want them to be pressured by the expectations of others.

There's only one way to help your kids be free: Teach them the Truth that will set them free. Teach them that, when you build your life on God's Word, then you live a life of genuine freedom. A life built on God's Truth is filled with happiness, joy, passion and purpose. You will spare your kids an awful lot of headaches and heartaches and heartbreaks if you teach them to rely on God's Word as the sole authority for their lives.

God expects you to be the primary teacher of His word and that means you have to know God's Word yourself! Like many people, you may need to catch up by getting into a Bible study. Then, teach your children to study the Bible for themselves.

Jesus said, "I gave them the message that you gave me, and they received it; they know that it is true that I came from you, and they believe that you sent me." (John 17:8, TEV)

Happy 32 B'Day.. Chris

Notes from Makati - 4

Hi all.. it's your friendly neighbourhood blogger from Manila again.. today's pretty quiet. I'm watching Ghana vs Australia as I'm blogging.. :D The football channel here is apparently (succintly too I might add) called "Balls". The theme for Saturday .. is called .. "All.. By...Myself...." :S Spent the day alone walking this way and that, now my feet are aching!

Alright, here's some stuff I did during the week. Still spent it w a couple a friends though nowhere as exciting as last week I would think..

Bonifacio High Street and Serendra (Day and Night)

Went there for lunch with Jen on Thurs - her last day was Friday.. quite sad ah.. she's been around a while, and always happily took my neuroses at work. During my stay she very graciously brought me around too and made me feel welcome too.. we had a pretty good talk at this Spanish-Filipino food place at Boni High, where I realized.. the food there is a beeeet similar to Chinese?!

Apparently a lot of expats live nearby, so Boni High and Serendra (just across the road) is somewhat like a chill/hangout place (or like the Filipinos say, "Gimmick" place) where you can sit, jog, walk your dog, or simply people watch.

Bamboo Rice - like our glutinous rice
Chicken adobo - like our lor2 kuey1
(Forgot the name) - like our poh piah!!

This one is Gising Gising - no similarities there haha

On Friday night Carol (my trainee) invited me for a walk and a drink, again to Boni High and Serendra. I think she knew I had no plans on for Fri and took pity.. which was fine by me, totally! heehee. We went to Conti's, a place more well-known for pastries but which also serves local favourites.

It was pretty good , actually. Besides the great food.. My meek trainee mutates into this outgoing chirpy gal when we're outside of the work context! Scary. haha..but we had fun eating and just talking crap.. and I'm still so fierce to her at work...........

After that she brought me to Fully Booked, this mega bookstore with like 5 storeys. FIVE! I could and almost lost myself in there..
Outside there was this guy with his huge dog. Carol blurted:" Isn't that... A Beethoven?" heehee

OK.. on to Sat, which as earlier mentioned was pretty quiet. I again took the Jeepney and went to another part of Makati to look-see. Actually Makati itself is pretty alright, everywhere I turn there are guards, and even the side streets are pretty ok for some exploration during the day. Not sure about night though, and .. not even going to attempt that!

It was pretty darn hot - almost cloudless!

Found a cool place for grub, along this street (dunno what street..). It links 2 boutiques and sells some Viet/Thai stuff. I just bought sandwiches and drank some odd-tasting dalandan juice (It's like some green orange juice - I don't know if the weird taste is due to dirty ice cubes or just the fruit itself - tasted like lime + rags.. bleurghh)

See the hair? long already right? You know my standard SOP when going to different countries right? Haha.. went to FP and chopped it off.. I think it looks like all my usual short hair styles.. what do you think? or do I look (more) nerdy (than usual? :( )

Then on to shopping and food at TGIF's. Gosh I spent so much...here are the spoils..

Chick lit

Eraserheads album - Filipino rock

Linen spray - Tangerine and Peppermint

Indulgence - Scent! I have so many bottles and hardly use them.. but still I love buying scents...

Boxers! Paul Frank + Boxers.. That's what i HAD to get it!

Hmm yup that's about it.. it's been a while now, Ghana and Aust are still drawing at 1 all. :S not that I'm really focusing on this game, hee

Till the next post,
Bee
