"...Then He brought them to the man to see what he would name them....So the man named all the birds and all the animals..." - Genesis 2:19-20
I've always wondered how the animal aardvark got it's name. I mean, did Adam, out of pity for it's hedious looks decide to name it with double A's as opposed to a single A so that it would be first on list of animals when people look up the dictionary?
Thanks to Wikipedia, the mystery is solved...for me, at least =P
"...The name comes from the Afrikaans/Dutch for "earth pig" (aarde earth, varken pig), because early settlers from Europe thought it resembled a domesticated pig...."
Alamak, now I have more questions.....
How come Afrikaans like to spell with double a's one......
And hor, Adam prolly didn't name them in english now that I recall. His native tongue was Hebrew! So how do you call an aardvark in Hebrew ah? Aanyone?

Maybe Adam was too nervous that day and he stammered. That explains the double "a". =p
