A Fish! Not a Whale!

Was watching National Geograhic Channel the other night about "Animal Extremes" and this time they were comparing the top ten extreme BIG MOUTH in the animal kingdom. Ya ya ya I know it sounds kind of lame but it's really quite interesting lor. Anyways, the show mentioned that though whales have huge mouths, their throats are so small that they can't swallow anything larger than a grapefruit! It also briefly mentioned the biblical story of "Jonah & the whale" explaining that Jonah in all probability wasn't swallowed by a whale but by a big fish and added that the ancient texts only mentioned "big fish" and not "whale".

It was an interesting piece of information (to me, at least), and it started me researching on this Jonah and whale thingie and here's what I found:

Jonah 1:17

At the Lord's command a large fish swallowed Jonah, and he was inside the fish for three days and nights. - Today's English Version

But the LORD provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights. - New International Version

Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. - King James Version

耶 和 華 安 排 一 條 大 魚 吞 了 約 拿 , 他 在 魚 腹 中 三 日 三 夜 。- Chinese Union Version

It is to be noticed of the story of Jonah's being "three days and three nights in the whale's belly," as recorded in Matt. 12:40, that here the Greek ketos means properly any kind of sea-monster of the shark or the whale tribe, and that in the book of Jonah (1:17) it is only said that "a great fish" was prepared to swallow Jonah. This fish may have been, therefore, some great shark. The white shark is known to frequent the Mediterranean Sea, and is sometimes found 30 feet in length.

I know some of you may think I have this weird incomprehensible fascination for animals (first pig, now fish, what's next with this guy...) but the reason I'm excited about this whole thing is the discovery of this website http://www.christiananswers.net/ that I find extremely useful and I just wanna share it with all of you!

Yup! That's about it! Going in a full circle just to introduce a website. Maybe I'm just loh soh....
