Brain Teaser

A man walks into the bank and passes the bank teller 1000 one dollar notes and asks her to distribute them into 10 bags so that any amount he needs from $1 to $1000 can be achieved in a combination of bags without having to reopen the bags. How can this be done?!

First one to tell me the correct answer gets a free ice cream treat

God works in strange ways

Something AMAZING happened last Sunday!!!

Was scheduled to perform "Greeter" duty and my first "greet" of the morning turned out to be Auntie Pauline. Instead of her usual bubbly and cheerful self, she looked extremely lost and anxious. As I approached her, I am reminded of Philippians 4:6.

Found out that Auntie Pauline had just gotten off a taxi and had dropped her new mobile phone in it. I immediately whisked out my phone and was about to dial Comfort's hotline when I sheepishly remembered that Comfort isn't the ONLY taxi provider in Singapore lor...

Needed more info. "RED taxi" said Auntie Pauline. Ok, RED is easy enough. Called TransCab's hotline and lodged a report with them. In the middle of the call, Auntie Pauline came up to me and whispered, "I think it was WHITE with a lot of RED...or was it RED with a lot of WHITE...or is there any company with RED AND WHITE taxis?" *faints*

Well, 'WHITE with a tinge of RED' and 'WHITE with a lot of RED' both pointed to SMRT Taxis so I called SMRT and again went thru the whole process of lodging the lost and found report. Having made the calls, all we could do was wait. I suggested that Auntie Pauline go ahead for the service upstairs and that I'll keep her informed should the Taxi companies call me. Reminding myself of Philippians 4:6 again, I told Auntie Pauline to pray about it and not to worry unduly. In my heart I was asking God to give Auntie Pauline peace of mind so that she won't be so consumed by her loss that she cannot focus on the sermon.

A RED and WHITE taxi did pull up about half an hour later to allow some of our church members to alight. Smiling to myself, I was thinking "NOW I know how a RED and WHITE taxi looks like!" cuz it wasn't like the typical SMRT taxis that were predominantly WHITE with a tinge of RED, this one was really half RED and half WHITE! After the taxi made a 3-point turn to exit, the driver wound down his window and beckoned me. As I approached, he held up Auntie Pauline's mobile phone..............

What are the chances of the same taxi fetching different passengers to the same place on the same day and within such a short time span? Coincidence? Skeptics might claim that. But I speak with authority on this matter, you see, I am a taxi driver myself. Believe you me, the possibility of such an occurance is nothing short of a miracle!

Big or small, God is working His miracles all the time. We just need to open our eyes to be able to see them.

Praise The Lord!

Using our gifts

Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve one another , faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.
If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God.
If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 4: 9-11

Rant

Sigh.
Our pastor on Sunday mentioned the importance of forgiveness to the enemy; and indeed to bless them. Given that our Lord sacrificed and suffered so much for us, to me it should be just a matter of putting down my pride and anger in order to follow in his footsteps, right?
It's not so easy, sadly. The forgive part I can do (and even that, after time) but the blessing part…

Got into an argument with a colleague from another team last week. Granted it was our mistake, and this we have admitted right from the start. But then the guy made a big deal out of it and started wanting us to do the equivalent of a public apology to the front desk, when the desk was not complaining at all. His emails started taking on a rather ridiculous tone that made me think he wasn't about moving on -- rather he just wanted to assign blame. As super I took the brunt of his petulance, and managed (I thought) to told him to shove it, albeit in a more civil manner. Squelched any residue anger with Kenny Rogers and thought I could just (first) forgive.

Monday we met up with our bosses in tow, to walkthrough and agree on procedures -- he went at it again! If our bosses had not blatantly disregarded his attempts I would have .. Don't really know what I would have done, really. But what he's managed to do is do piss me off -- garggghhhhhh!! And yet must forgive!! Prolly can do it, In Time, but meanwhile for now... Garghgggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Questions questions questions...

Can a saved person ever be lost?

Can a Christian, a person who has received Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour, sin to such a degree that he will lose his salvation, go to hell or Hades at death, and eventually be consigned to the lake of fire at the great white throne judgment?”

http://www.christiananswers.net/q-acb/acb-t006.html

"What are some of the ways in which the Bible and the Roman Catholic church differ?"

The Bible says:

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Catholicism says:

Man is justified by baptism plus faith, plus additional works (see Catholic Catechism Ref. Nos. 1265-1271, 1987-1995). The Holy Spirit's transforming work in the sinner becomes the grounds, along with faith, for justification. Most good Catholics are therefore very concerned with "being good enough," "meriting," and "earning" their salvation.

A Walk in the Park - Invite!

A very good day to my fellow cell mates! Eh "cell mates".. Looks weird in writing hor?
Anyways. Since we don't have any SG in the month of June -- shall we all go to the Southern Ridges for a NICE BIG LONG WALK?

Start from marang walk at Harbourfront side, to canopy walk just before kent ridge. Around 5km in all -- not going over to Kent Ridge gardens caz I heard the sights start to get a little sparse and boring there. At a leisurely pace, this should take around 2-3 hours. Here's a link you can go to for more info.

www.nparks.gov.sg/southernridges.html
Meeting time - 830am Saturday 28 June.

So no boozing the night before ah everyone!

How? ON? You will just need sensible walking shoes, a water bottle. and insect repellent. Oh also sunblock. Remember to have a good breakfast before you come otherwise might end up eating grass.

Open to all, so can bring your friends as well k?

Pics from my walk earlier (as you can see there are A LOT of trees):

Lemme know,

Sunday worship at Saddleback Church. Awesome!

A Fish! Not a Whale!

Was watching National Geograhic Channel the other night about "Animal Extremes" and this time they were comparing the top ten extreme BIG MOUTH in the animal kingdom. Ya ya ya I know it sounds kind of lame but it's really quite interesting lor. Anyways, the show mentioned that though whales have huge mouths, their throats are so small that they can't swallow anything larger than a grapefruit! It also briefly mentioned the biblical story of "Jonah & the whale" explaining that Jonah in all probability wasn't swallowed by a whale but by a big fish and added that the ancient texts only mentioned "big fish" and not "whale".

It was an interesting piece of information (to me, at least), and it started me researching on this Jonah and whale thingie and here's what I found:

Jonah 1:17

At the Lord's command a large fish swallowed Jonah, and he was inside the fish for three days and nights. - Today's English Version

But the LORD provided a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three days and three nights. - New International Version

Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. - King James Version

耶 和 華 安 排 一 條 大 魚 吞 了 約 拿 , 他 在 魚 腹 中 三 日 三 夜 。- Chinese Union Version

http://christiananswers.net/q-eden/edn-t004.html

It is to be noticed of the story of Jonah's being "three days and three nights in the whale's belly," as recorded in Matt. 12:40, that here the Greek ketos means properly any kind of sea-monster of the shark or the whale tribe, and that in the book of Jonah (1:17) it is only said that "a great fish" was prepared to swallow Jonah. This fish may have been, therefore, some great shark. The white shark is known to frequent the Mediterranean Sea, and is sometimes found 30 feet in length.

I know some of you may think I have this weird incomprehensible fascination for animals (first pig, now fish, what's next with this guy...) but the reason I'm excited about this whole thing is the discovery of this website http://www.christiananswers.net/ that I find extremely useful and I just wanna share it with all of you!

Yup! That's about it! Going in a full circle just to introduce a website. Maybe I'm just loh soh....

Touching

Listening to the song, touched by the words…

Let us remember the un-saved souls and those in need in our prayers; pray for God’s mercy and grace reaching them; pray for more aids to reach them soonest possible; pray for their salvation, and pray for the monetary and aid offerings coming from our hearts.............. God bless

What's in a name - Aardvark

"...Then He brought them to the man to see what he would name them....So the man named all the birds and all the animals..." - Genesis 2:19-20

I've always wondered how the animal aardvark got it's name. I mean, did Adam, out of pity for it's hedious looks decide to name it with double A's as opposed to a single A so that it would be first on list of animals when people look up the dictionary?

Thanks to Wikipedia, the mystery is solved...for me, at least =P

"...The name comes from the Afrikaans/Dutch for "earth pig" (aarde earth, varken pig), because early settlers from Europe thought it resembled a domesticated pig...."

Alamak, now I have more questions.....

How come Afrikaans like to spell with double a's one......

And hor, Adam prolly didn't name them in english now that I recall. His native tongue was Hebrew! So how do you call an aardvark in Hebrew ah? Aanyone?

Something To Think About

It has been noted by some writers that the apparent prominence of Jews is disproportionate to the size of their population. One example, Mark Twain comments:

If statistics are right, the Jews constitute but one percent of the human race. It suggests a nebulous dim puff of stardust lost in the blaze of the Milky Way. properly, the Jew ought hardly to be heard of, but he is heard of, has always been heard of. He is as prominent on the planet as any other people, and his commercial importance is extravagantly out of proportion to the smallness of his bulk. His contributions to the world's list of great names in literature, science, art, music, finance, medicine, and abstruse learning are also away out of proportion to the weakness of his numbers. He has made a marvelous fight in this world, in all the ages; and had done it with his hands tied behind him. He could be vain of himself, and be excused for it. The Egyptian, the Babylonian, and the Persian rose, filled the planet with sound and splendor, then faded to dream-stuff and passed away; the Greek and the Roman followed; and made a vast noise, and they are gone; other people have sprung up and held their torch high for a time, but it burned out, and they sit in twilight now, or have vanished. The Jew saw them all, beat them all, and is now what he always was, exhibiting no decadence, no infirmities of age, no weakening of his parts, no slowing of his energies, no dulling of his alert and aggressive mind. All things are mortal but the Jew; all other forces pass, but he remains. What is the secret of his immortality?
